The Peacemaker

I really don’t need to apologize.
I meant my friend no harm.
He just misunderstood me.
There’s no need for alarm.

But, I heard that he was hurt
And the truth began to weigh.
I wondered, if I apologized,
What could I even say?

One evening, reading the paper,
I dozed, for just a mite,
And I dreamed (or did I dream it?)
That I heard the Voice of Light.

And He said, "If I’d done anything
To deserve this cross I see,
I’d carry it to Calvary."
But then, I didn’t, you see.

My eyes were open in a flash!
My heart was beating fast!
Oh, Lord! Why hadn’t I realized?
The truth came through at last!

I call myself a Christian.
I fancy I follow His steps!
If, by my blame, I can restore;
Lord, I will do it, yet!

So, I found my friend and I asked him
To forgive the thing I had done
And the tears of two hearts mingled.
A new day was begun.

When I said my prayer that night,
An Echo seemed to say,
"Blessed are you, Peacemaker.
You were My child, today!"
