My Way

I follow the footprints of Jesus,
So plain in the valley below.
When I, o’er the way, would falter,
They show me the way to go.

And when I am practiced in 'trailing',
I start on the up-winding road.
The footprints, sometimes, grow dimmer.
My progress seems so very slow.

Often I’ve stopped and, searching,
Found nothing to help me there.
‘Twas then that my knees learned the bending,
My heart learned the fervence of prayer.

Then came a long, dreary, desert.
The footprints were not to be found.
I learned how to shut my eyes, trusting
The faith He, so far, had allowed.

Soon, darkness gave way to the sunshine.
The burdens were lifted, again.
His footprints were easily distinguished
In the life~giving, gentle, rain.


Never, oh, never, He faileth!
His love is enough for all time!
Encouraged and completely trusting,
I walk with His hand fast in mine!
