The Merriam Webster dictionary defines legacy as a gift by will especially of money or other personal property: something transmitted by or received from an ancestor. It is a BEQUEST: To give or leave by will -- to hand down.
My translation of this definition is something handed down to the following generations as a treasured gift, commodity or, historical tradition. A legacy might not always be a positive bequest to be desired; it could be a generational blessing or curse. We will all leave a legacy with those who we have been connected to during our lifetime. It is a legacy of the mind which will live on in the memory of those who knew us in life. It is easy, howbeit irresponsible to continue to live our life without conscience attention to the example we are being to those closest to us. Now is the time to redeem the time we have been given to invest in positive memories for others to cherish when we are no longer present in this world.


In the book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 3, of the Bible; it talks about the importance of time and the appointment of seasons for every purpose under the heaven. It speaks about a time to be born and a time to die, a time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Since there is a time and season for everything under heaven then there must be a time for God to speak and a time for us to listen and respond, a time to make a living and a time to experience the consequences of the choices we made. Now is the time to take responsibility for what we are doing in our life. Now is the season to change our focus on those we have invested much time into. What good memories are you divorcing today? What are you doing today with your children that will remain in their memory well past your lifetime? What relationship are you pushing away because you failed to be responsible for your own happiness, yet you held high expectations for others to supply this demand? Someone once said that real happiness is a product or fulfillment of our obligation and responsibilities to others; it is a conscience choice to impact others in a positive way. It is making a good impression on their life just because of our presence.


God has given us enough time for His purpose, Time to do everything He has called us to do. We have been called to be good stewards over the time we have been given. One day soon we will be called to give account to what we have done with the time God gave us.
God’s time is the second most valuable gift He has given us, second only to the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Some of us have already wasted the majority of time allotted to us to be of service to God. The choices we make from this day forward will be recorded more heavily on our account because God is warning us not to take this precious gift for granted any longer. Our life was not given to us to serve ourselves with every pleasure within our reach, but to serve God by being a blessing in the earth to others.

The time we have wasted up to this point is a resource we cannot recover, but today can be the beginning to a fresh start in a new direction. We can balance the deficit to the time lost by making restitution in the days to come.


There is a time, a set time, for the examination of every purpose, and every work done under the sun. Men have their day now, but God’s day is coming, Ps. 37:13. We must be about our Father’s business while it is still day because the time is coming when no man can work. Make your life a testimony others will want to brag about. The following are a few tips to help us start redeeming the time we have left to leave a positive legacy for our children’s children.

* Let your good memories out weigh the bad seasons in your life.
* Create snapshot moments of building relationship not destroying them.
* Make every effort to be polite and leave a positive experience with each encounter.
* Remember random acts of kindness are divine gifts you give to others.
* Listen more, speak less, and think long before reacting to others bad behavior.
* Take in account the consequences of how your actions will affect others.
* It’s not enough that you have done your best when you haven’t done what’s required.
* Reflect on what God wants of you in every decision which will affect others’ future.
* Pray about doing the right thing according to God’s Will, not your desires.
* Make the most of every moment, it is being recorded for future reference.


In conclusion, I am presenting this gift at a time when we are gathered together to celebrate the Birthday of my mother, Marva Jones, in recognition of the memories we all share in this room. Some memories exceed the number of years I have on this planet but we hold those memories as our own personal treasures in our mind. The best time to reflect on the shared memories of our time with Marva is best served while she is around to enjoy or dispute our version of the facts. What you are holding in your hand is my legacy and purpose. It is the first proof of tangible faith for what I have dreamed about for many years now. To write, publish and speak to the hearts of the people of God loves. Not to preach, judge or push any agenda on an unwilling heart, my goal is to present my mother with the harvest of all her good efforts to raise her children with the best of her strength, knowledge, and faith. My mission is to inform, inspire and encourage others to examine their life and measure it against the requirements of God’s purpose for our existence.


The life you have been given is God’s gift to you; what you do with your life is your gift to God.

I pray the reader will consider the best direction in life which leads to happiness, contentment, and good memories dependent upon what they will leave behind as a legacy.
