What do you see,
When you look at me?

What do I view,
When I look at you?

The person within,
Concealed by bone and skin.

Truly known only to self & God,
Mortals created from the sod.

Our pain, fears and care;
With others, we reluctantly share.

We must not risk the chance of being hurt or used.
Too often, we’ve been taken advantage of and abused.

Concealing the person inside,
Our flaws and inadequacies we must hide.

We dare not reveal our hopes & dreams,
Fearing they will be washed away in life’s torrent streams.

Incognito, we must remain.
Close relationships, we must refrain.

We must protect ourselves at all cost,
Lest our self-sufficiency become lost.

For what we are-is who we be.
For what we is-is not what we see.
