In May 1987 I was introduced to a sweet baby boy. His nickname: Prince. I don’t know who gave him this nickname or why, but today it blesses me.
Prince was a loving, caring, sensitive little boy who was always laughing and sharing a hug. The light of his soul seemed to flow throughout him to all he encountered in his path.
Throughout Prince’s young age he shared the dreams and visions he saw. I listened but I didn’t understand.
Several times Prince told me he felt he was being watched. There wasn’t anybody there, so I dismissed it. It wasn’t until years later I would come to grasp these words.
When Prince turned eleven, tragedy struck in his young life. That day it was as if the light in his eyes was shut off, like a light switch, plummeting him into utter darkness, and me with him.
The darkness seemed to grow and I could see Prince being taken deeper and farther away from me each day. The eeriness of the night seemed to be consuming our days. I was scared and feelings of helplessness and frustration grew.
I didn’t know how to help Prince. I couldn’t reach him. He was slipping deeper away, more and more. Then one night a Savior, upon His saddled steed, rode into my life. God began to reveal His love, guidance, and teachings to me. He walked with me through the frontlines of Hell.
As I grew in my walk with my Lord, Prince stopped living. With dreams stolen, visions clouded, anger and depression as his only friends, death gripped tighter.
I had a dream one night: Prince was on one side of a very large canyon and I was on the other side. I couldn’t see him clearly for the darkness surrounding him. I kept calling his name, I could faintly hear his cries. In a moment a blinding light flashed. The light of Jesus, being a bridge, brought us together.
I startled awake and my Lord spoke, “I am with you both. This battle belongs to me.”
Over time I have come to understand that God has a plan for Prince’s life. The enemy has stolen and wrecked havoc, but God will restore. All for His glory.
Though our journey has gone through many twists and turns, I stand on the Word of God, I kneel in prayer, I cry the Battle Song and I am thankful. For as much love I have in my heart for Prince, it is only a portion of the love God has for him.
God showed me a vision of Jesus. He was preparing to saddle up His steed. Jesus and His steed were riding up to a hill: Calvary Hill. Calvary, where Prince will meet King Jesus.
Then I heard a voice of Jesus asking, “Is it time to ride, Father?”
“Not yet, my Son.”
So, as our journey continues today, through Hell’s valley, I keep my eyes focused on Jesus. I am waiting expectantly to see Him ride, the ride of eternal life, He is offering to Prince.
I look forward to the day when the two shall meet on bended knee at the cross of Calvary. For the call and purpose upon Prince’s life is evidence of a God full of mercy and grace with a plan.
“Is it time to ride, Father?”
“Soon, my Son. Saddle up your steed!”
