The Nurse

FOR THE Nurses of Our Manors

Reference: John 13:5....”He washed their feet”


I touched with gentle tenderness
The skin I bathed today
And listened to repeated phrase
Of what was yesterday.
I tried to hide the rush to serve
So many waiting me -
Not to appear as hasty...
But duties I could see.

I made the bed as words were said,
I smiled and sounded glib;
I dressed a wound and passed out pills -
And then arranged a bib -
Through all the day I found a way
To keep a cheery smile......
I also wished for certain ones
To sit and chat awhile.

...All day I held back tears for one
Who went away today...
My solace came as I recalled
The faith she gave away.
Sweet tears flowed then...away from tasks
That I must see and do...
...Dear Lord, ... was this my patient or
Was my patient really You?

Matt. 25:40 "Inasmuch as ye did it unto the least of these
my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
