THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE

I know I’m guilty; I did the crime they say I did.
But what of this man who hangs between me and the thief. As I understand it he has committed no crime.

Yet here he hangs, more bloodied and bruised than me or the other. Blood pours from the crown of thorns they put upon his head, running into his eyes, mixing with the sweat as it runs down the cross before dripping down to the ground.

They say he is a prophet. Others say he is a king. Maybe that is why they have put a sign above his cross calling him “The King of the Jews.” If he did no wrong,why must he hang here with us?

Even Pilate said he could find no wrong with this man.

I have heard he called himself the Christ, that would explain the king part. And it is his own people who did this to him.

What is that he is saying? “My God, why have you forsaken me?” Maybe there is more to this man than I thought. I shall ask him. “Sir, if you are truly the Christ, I beg of you to let me come with you to your Kingdom.” He tells me, “Surely today you shall be with me in paradise.”

Hey! I feel at such peace. I am no longer afraid to die.

What a loving man. Now he is asking God to forgive the people for what they have done to him.
He seems to be praying, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

He is dead… It has only been a few hours.

Here comes the soldier to hurry us along. He is sticking his sword into his side, blood and water pour out.

This man was truly the Son of God.

He has saved me.
