Except for YOU

I’m all alone in here, dear Lord,
Except for You!
I watch the faces ~ people passing
As they do...

In rooms of stress, and loving grief
I watch, ~ the conversations brief,
And wonder how I’d ever live ~
Except for You!

I’d lay the mantle quick aside,
Except for You....
For I recall a hillside bleak
Where You stayed true;

To fulfill every quota deemed
The least ~ to fulfill every need
And say at last twas “finished” when
You hung between.

I understand more deeply now
Because of You,
The lines of time upon my brow
Have brought me to

The truth that never swerves or dips
But always ~ always on my lips
Proclaims the victory I have
Because of You!
