THE PERFECT GIFT

Every Christmas as we prepare gifts for those that we love and who

are special to us in some way, we may wrestle with thoughts of the

inadequacy of the gifts we have purchased or even made. Measured

by our standards they may not be nice enough or special enough in

some way. Perhaps not exactly the best color or size or design.

Sometimes we even question if "enough" is enough?

As I reflect on why I give gifts at Christmas and the one true GIFT of

Christmas, I am struck by the perfect completeness of God's GIFT to

man. JESUS. When I think of Jesus, I know that God is the author of

true gift giving. There is no room for questions or doubt concerning the

appropriateness and completeness of God's gift. Only God could so

thoroughly and perfectly know the needs and desires of man's heart.

Only God could fashion a plan that would for all time, to all people, be

the ultimate, one-time gift to the world.

And He chose to do this through a baby. A baby born into

poverty. A sinless baby born into a sinful world. "God himself

became flesh and made his dwelling among us"(John 1:14). Think of it!

What an undeserved, incredible gift!

Did the GIFT stop there? Of course the answer is, NO! This is the

gift that kept on giving. From the beginning, this baby had one

purpose in life. That was to complete God's plan. The plan was to do

the Father's will. The plan was to lay down His life. The plan was

supreme sacrifice. The Father sent the Son to be the "Savior of the

world"(I John 4:14). It is through His laying down His life that God's GIFT is

complete. Because of Christ's sacrifice we can have: forgiveness of sin,

eternal life, the Holy Spirit, a relationship with the Father, fullness of life

and much, much more.

Yes, God's one true GIFT to the world is "enough " in every way.

He came to us wrapped in swaddling cloths, cradled in a manger.

This perfect gift is Jesus.
