My Daddy's Eyes

I could spend hours wondering why I was born into a middle class family in central Kansas versus a poor family in Anywhere, Earth. I wonder how each one of us fits into God’s master plan? I question why I have encountered certain people in my lifetime and in a split second missed so many others? I’m puzzled to know that two people can make the same choice and one be right in their choice and the other wrong.

Stop and think for a moment…
Don’t you find it amazing that you were born the day you were?
How about the country in which you were born?
The family you were born into?
The gender?
The color of your skin, eyes, and hair?

Of all the traits I inherited, I pray that I have my Daddy’s eyes. I want to see what He sees. I want to see my life through His eyes. I want to know the things I did right and painfully and shamefully see the things I did wrong. I want to look into His eyes and tell Him, “I’m sorry for hurting You, doubting You, and not trusting You completely. I’m sorry for not making You my Everything. I’m sorry for wanting more when You provided plenty. I’m sorry I didn’t know You earlier in my life. I’m sorry for causing pain for others, and mostly Daddy, I’m sorry for the pain You endured on the Cross for me.”

“You see Daddy, I would much rather see my life through Your eyes than to witness Your death through mine. Even though You walked the path to Golgotha with my sins on Your mind, I know You took each step with love in Your heart. And then when You looked down from Calvary’s cross; was my face before You? If so, I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry.”

One day, this will all make sense to me. One day soon, my Daddy will call me home. And on that day, I will understand the love He felt for me when He hung on the cross. I will be aware of the traits that make me uniquely different from everyone else.

I’m certain that He will smile a perfect smile and look at me with those beautiful eyes of understanding and forgiveness. He will open His arms wide and welcome me home to His wonderful - everlasting - heavenly home. After all, that's exactly where I'm destined to be.

Scripture:
“…because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
~Romans 8:14-17 (NIV)

Prayer to the Father:
Abba, Father - Thank You for mercy, grace, and forgiveness. Thank You for loving me and choosing me to be Your child. Thank You for overlooking my sinful nature. Thank You for pursuing me and cleansing me with Your precious blood to make me as white as snow. Thank You Daddy for being my Savior, protective Father, and treasured Friend. Thank You for the angels who surround me and help me along the way. Thank You for my earthly parents who love me in spite of my selfishness and stubborn nature.

Abba, I know there are people who do not have kind earthly parents. But I also know that we are all born for a reason and that You don’t make junk and You know who to place in our lives for Your purpose. I pray for those who have had painful childhoods and have been abused by their parents. I pray that You will touch their lives so they can know real love – Your love. I pray for our children to know You as their personal Lord and Savior. I pray for those who were once on the right path but who have strayed. I pray for those who are tormented with illness, are suffering, and whose bodies are failing them. May they draw near to You for comfort and restoration. Father I ask for You to always be in my heart and on my mind.

I pray that I see each day as a new beginning. A chance to rekindle my relationship with You. I pray for moments of stillness where I can nestle in Your presence and hear the whispers of Your voice.

Father, thank You for sending Your Son. Thank You for His birth, life, death, and resurrection. Thank You for loving me that much. In all I do, may I glorify You. Amen.
