On Whose Side Are You?

Margot Becker, a 14 year old teenager, lived in a small rural Bavarian town in southern Germany. In the days before World War II, a Panzer heavy Infantry Company, an advance column of the Wehrmacht, marched along a country road going east in preparation of its attack on Poland. Margot, though very young, was taught as a young Roman Catholic girl that all life is sacred and never to be taken lightly. She believed all people were children of God and should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of who they are or were.

“Mag”, as she was called by family and her closest friends heard the tramping feet and motorized vehicles as the army approached and decided to take action. She boldly exited her small cottage house, hurried to the middle of the road, stood resolutely in the path of the Nazis, and angrily brandished her only weapon—her family’s fireplace iron poker. The marching soldiers and their armored columns simply brushed Margot aside and continued their march to the Polish border.

Later, her father angrily admonished her saying, “Margot, what were you thinking? You could have been arrested or had the entire family arrested! Even worse they could have killed you! You didn’t really think you could stop the German Army all by yourself with a simple fireplace poker? What is the matter with you my precocious daughter?”

Margot replied, “Well, father, no I guess I could never take on the whole German Army. But I could certainly let them know what I believe and that I will not stand idly by while they make war on other people for no reason!”

Now there’s a thought for all of us today. In the struggle between God and evil, between Jesus and Satan, whose side are you on? Today Christians are in a struggle with evil. That evil is in many forms not mention in the forms of abortion, euthanasia, relative truth, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, rape, pornography, child abuse, spousal abuse, white slavery, racism, cohabitation, discrimination, secularism, rash judgment, religious hatred, sexism. When confronted with the evils of this day, do you have the courage and conviction to stand firmly against evil or do you give into the drumbeat of evil even when God has said time and time again through His Word that these acts are evil!!!
