For the purpose of today’s discussion, the definition of “place of worship” will be used.

We will begin at the first described place of worship and work up to the current term of “church”.

1. Altar (Genesis 8:20)
Define and discuss purpose. What is the purpose today?

2. Tabernacle (Exodus 25:8-9)
Define and discuss
(Exodus 40:34-35) Filled with God’s Glory
(Acts 7:44-45) God’s Presence traveled with them.
(Hebrews 8:5) Heavenly Pattern

3. Temple (2 Chronicles 2 & 3)
Define and discuss
(2 Chronicles 6:4-10) Who built the temple?
(1Chronicles 22:8) Why could David not build the temple?
(2 Chronicles 6:18-21) If God can not actually dwell in temple, why build it?
(Acts 7:47-50)

4. Synagogue (Acts 13:14-15)
What is a synagogue?

5. Church
(Acts 5:12-14) Spread by signs and wonders
(Acts 11:19-26) Spread by persecution
(Eph 2:21-22) Individuals the dwelling place of God’s Spirit.

Why attend church?

(Ps 100:4) Give praise and thanksgiving
