I always wanted to be like dad,
Black, strong, proud, and mad,
He was a crack dealer in the hood,
As was Mom and grandma, we made off it good,
It was easy to "slide in" the family business.

Went to grandma about need for money for a date,
Her thinking was kinda of "pass the collection plate,"
Said I will give you a percent if you sell this sugarcaine,
It was like seeing the mecca of the american dream.
So I began to be grandma's sidekick street vendor.

But there was something I knew rose up in me so sincere,
I did not share with anyone but it would definitely interfere,
I heard a voice inside me, say, "I want you to preach the gospel,"
Strange voice would get my attention for lost people,
I would shake my head and say, "maaan!"

My brother got into a run with the cops,
He o.d. trying to swallow mulitbags before he got caught,
My grief bore anger in questions of why,
Why my brother? Why did he have to die?
Little did I know, hell got a stronger hold turning against God.

I had a schmooze club where the social scheme was a drug nest,
I had money, women, anything material I could invest,
I would spend $5000 a night on my friends,
I was swimming, ya understand, in everythin'!
I was doing life with crack, you know what I'm saying?

One night I had a dream, I dreamed I went to hell!
I started screaming, it seemed so real!
I couldn't get out of the dream, no matter how hard I struggled!
I yelled for the Lord to get me out of trouble!
I awoke sweating, hyperventilating, heart pounding!

Believe it or not I cried out to the Lord,
I ax Him, "what are you scaring me for?"
He said, "I have called you to Me!" I began shaking.
I fell backwards to the floor, Man, I wasn't faking!
I was in the presence of the Lord!

Something rushed over me liked a punch in the gut,
I praised Him on the floor with my hands raised up,
Now I am a black man, 200 lbs but God had me pinned down,
I wasn't going no where but a sin run-down,
And I knew that voice, I said, "It was You!"

I began preaching Jesus Christ to all at my club,
They thought I had lost my mind in what I was giving up,
Friends made jokes and their laughter roared!
I preached they were going to hell without the Lord!
Before long people started taking me seriously.

Friends off the street came to me because they needed prayer,
My mother and father in time came to Christ in tears!
Grandma was the last to come to the Lord
She broke before the altar and thanked God for her boy!
The Lord gave me a new family.

The Lord showed me the way out of hell's stronghold,
He has brought me to you to tell what I knowed,
All hustlers, players, and pimps, those sucked into hype!
He chooses Whom He will and if He has you in His sights,
You better give it up! You know what I am saying?
