One midnight moon in late November
Asleep in bed for long lost slumber
I thought I heard a child weeping
Yet waking up I’d just been dreaming

I thought, how strange this cry so clear
When from my eyes came icy tears
Was this weeping a sleepless dream
Or had I heard some dead thing scream?

From my window looking out
I thought to hear a child shout
Through the trees fell moonlight shadows
Upon a hideous figure crouching

I turned to hear a child laughing
In the darkness of my room
When from the corner out came leaping
Shadows casting from the moon

Back in bed I laid uneasy
Waiting for the morning sun
I arose to find in sunlight casting
Shadows through the autumn trees
A hollow stump in silence grinning
‘Twas nothing but a nightmares dream

Sleep deprived and agitated
Feeling I still was not alone
Turning ‘round I glimpsed a figure
As from my bed a shadow 'rose

Running outside looking back
I could not escape this silhouette
Oh what soul have ye, what mystery
O’ light in shadows of empty dreams
Follow me, yet follow still
My story told, you always will!
