Shepherds In Egypt
When the children of Israel came to Egypt, Pharaoh did not give them a place in the heart of the land, but Goshen which is in the outskirt of the country, because every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians (Genesis 46:34). The land of Egypt in the Bible is a type of the kingdom of the world under the rulership of Pharaoh, a type of Satan. The Bible message on the separation of the people of God from the world is very clear. But if we look into the world of today, we see shepherds in Egypt. Has pharaoh changed his mind, or the level of his tolerance has become high enough to allow abominations in his land?
The presence of the shepherd in Egypt must be questioned with all biblical authority. How did they get in? No shepherd can enter Egypt with shepherd staff in his hand. If a shepherd is found in Egypt, such has dropped the staff, which is the offence of Christ, right there at the gate. He has renounced his identity in the secrecy of his mind.
Shepherds have become fed up of the life in Goshen; a land that has no such a great king as Pharaoh. They have gone after the melons and the cucumbers of Egypt in their hearts. They have transformed the sheep under their care to a product marketable in Egypt, which they will be able to exchange for melons and cucumbers of Egypt their lusts desire. Instead of feeding the sheep, they are eating them and exchanging them for the treasures of this world.
Woe to you, shepherds! This is the word of God to the shepherds who have won Pharaoh’s favour by laying aside their identity as shepherds. Those, who, because of wealth and fame have entered into partnership with the world. They are the friends of Presidents and ministers. They are called to give opening prayer in a meeting where evils are legalized, and teaching of the Bible in schools is abolished. They could not, like John the Baptist, speak against their cruelty, since they have a stake in the proceeds of their wickedness.
Those, who could not discern the divine rule of Christ in His Church and have gone after the order of the world. They are the shepherds who feed the flock with the abominations of Egypt. They import worldly music and satanic dance into the Church. The magic of Egypt is the power behind their miracles. Compare their followers with any social gathering in the town, can you notice any difference?
Jesus the true shepherd went down to Egypt not in pursuit of fame and international recognition, but to associate with the affliction of the people of God in the house of bondage. He could compare His stay on heart to nothing but temptations. Moses had to leave the pleasure of the palace of pharaoh. How has what Egyptians regard as abomination becomes a celebrity in the midst of Egypt?
If you are found under them, you are called to flee from them to Christ the Shepherd of your soul. They will sell you to the Egyptians! Run for your soul! And to you shepherds in Egypt:
“Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" declares the LORD”(Jeremiah 23:1).
"Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who only take care of themselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock?” (Ezekiel 34: 2).
