We human beings are great at making wonderful plans for our future. We have the rest of our lives intricately laid out, but all it takes is one unexpected turn, and all our plans will collapse like a house of cards. Take for example the first Valentine's Day that my wife and I were going to share. We had been barely married a month, and I wanted to give her a romantic evening to remember. I got home before she did and had plenty of time to set the stage.

On my way home from work, I bought her 6 roses and a heart-shaped helium balloon that said, "I Luv U." I got to the apartment and immediately turned on the oven. As I was opening the box of Shake-n-Bake, I could visualize the whole sequence of events. She would walk in the door, and the first thing that she would see is the words "I Luv U" dancing on the end of a weighed string. I would stroll up to her and deliver the message with my own mouth. After we kiss, I would escort her to our kitchen table where there would be candlelight and the roses in vase.

I was imagining the grand banquet I would set before her as I slid the chicken leg quarters into the oven ...

Then the phone rang.

Upon picking up the receiver, I distinctly heard my wife cry out "Help!" Her car had just died . Did I mention that she works thirty miles away and had barely been on the road five minutes when the automobile decided to give up the ghost. As we went through the options, it quickly became apparent that supper was definitely going to be late tonight. Also we decided that a tow truck was in order. At first she was just going to ride back to town with the truck driver, but then the man within me arose. This was Valentine's Day! If my wife was going to be making that long drive with anybody, it was going to me – not some stranger.

So I turned down the oven and switched from romantic evening to knight in shining armor mode. I dashed out the door and was off to rescue my wife with a bundle of wilting roses at my side and a heart-shaped balloon happily bumping against the ceiling on the passenger side of the car.

James 4:13-15

Though my heart go out to you, leaving us to wonder about her reaction to "Valentines Day to go" sure left this article "weak" in the end. What good are the efforts of the knight in shining armor if we never learned about fair maiden?
