I am privileged
Because I do not have to breastfeed my baby in a war zone
Or a street corner or refugee camp
I am privileged
Because I am not infected with HIV
Or TB or measles with no hope of vaccine
I am privileged
Because when winter comes
I am wrapped in warm blankets sipping cups of hot coffee
Eating chocolate, watching movies
I am privileged
Because I am not oppressed
Or abused or running in fear of my family’s life
I am privileged
Because I am not hungry
Or cold or homeless
I am privileged

Some days my privilege sickens me
My life seems far too luxurious in a world so wounded in its under privilege
Only God’s grace has made me privileged
And because of Him will I be thankful
Keep my hands open
Share the blessings he showers on me

I am privileged
Because I live in a country where I am not persecuted
For worshipping my God openly…
