The yellow bus pulled up to school
one bright and sunny day.
The brown-eyed girl with wavy hair
jumped out and yelled, “Hooray”!
She loved her school! She loved to learn!
She loved to read and draw!
She skipped right through the big, blue doors.
She stopped…oh, what she saw…

Her best friend, Rose, held her dad’s hand.
Tim’s father carried his tray.
Kids everywhere were with someone.
Today it was Dad’s Day.
“Where is your dad?” a young girl asked.
“You’re by yourself? But why?”
The brown-eyed girl felt lost and scared.
She rushed to class and cried.

All day the girl felt sick and sad.
Her heart was filled with fear.
She asked her mom when she got home,
“Where’s Dad? Why isn’t he here?”
The mama smiled her slow, sweet smile.
Her eyes began to glisten.
“I have a story to tell you, Child.
Come over here and listen.

Come up here, my child,
right here next to me.
I’ll tell you just how it is
you came to be.”
The sad little girl
with the wavy, brown hair
snuggled up close
to her mom in the chair.

“Once,” said her mom,
“a young girl loved to play
with her cute little baby dolls.
She dreamed of the day
when she would be a mama
with babes of her own,
and a family to care for
in her very own home.

She watched and she waited
for a man to share her life-
someone perfect for her husband
so that she could be his wife.
Still, she longed for a child.
She cried out to God in prayer,
“Lord, please, I want a baby!
Sometimes life does not seem fair!”

God whispered to the woman
that He had a different plan.
He would help her have the baby
of a very special man.
For in a far away place
was a man that was sad.
His dream had always been
to be a husband and a dad.

He journeyed down a different road
as he traveled through his life.
He couldn’t care for a child,
for a home or for a wife.
He prayed, “Dear Heavenly Father,
I wish that there could be
a happy, healthy child
that would be a part of me.”

God sent this special man
to a doctor with the part
of him that loved and longed
for a child of his heart.
The doctor called the woman,
“I have just what you need.
It really is a miracle…
It’s a tiny, girl seed!”

Then the doctor placed the seed
deep within the woman’s womb.
God Almighty breathed His life
into that sacred room.
Nine long months later
a precious baby girl came.
The mama gazed in the child’s eyes.
“I’ll bet you know her name.”

A little ray of sunshine
was born into my home.
Now we have each other.
We’re both loved; we’re not alone.
God heard my prayer, Child.
He answered my request.
His special plan surprised me
but, as always, He knew best.

For anyone who knows us
can look at you and see
that just to be your mama
is the very best for me.
You will not have your real dad
at school on Daddy’s Day.
But there is One who loves you
and He’ll hear you when you pray.

God is our Heavenly Father, Child.
He brought us to each other.
You are God’s answer to my prayer.
I am your grateful mother.”
The child raised up her little arms.
She hugged her mother close.
“I love you, Mom, and you love me.
But God loves us the most!”
