Suffering, a mystery, divine
Supernaturally strange, a miraculous sign
That God is performing, down deep in my soul
An eternal submission, He’s making me whole

Suffering, a power complete
Senseless, misunderstood, yet a quiet retreat
Where God is providing, down deep in my will
An eternal repose, while abiding, I’m still

Suffering, a blessing profound
Perseverance complete, inward smiles, now abound
For God is triumphing, down deep in my being
An eternal dependence, encouraged, I cling

Suffering, a glorious place
God’s magnificent work of His mercy and grace
For God is creating, down deep, way down deep
A joy in my sorrow, forever to keep

Suffering, lessons of life
Heavy crosses to carry, as sharp as a knife
For God is imprinting down deep, so I’ll know
His nearness so gentle that helps me to grow

Suffering, a remarkable time
To cleanse my heart, know her rhythm and rhyme
For God is directing, a change deep within
To get my attention, to deal with my sin

Suffering, an amazing thing
God knows and protects, gives His songs to sing
For God is composing, down deep in my being
The music of Heaven’s bright angels, unseen

Suffering, a ministry grand
Pain, producing a crown, midst His comforting hand
For God is rewriting, down deep, a new song
In Him, I’m rejoicing to Him I belong
