"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the Age." Matthew 18:19-20 (NIV)
It is something that happens in each serviceman's and servicewoman's life in each of the Armed Forces of the United States; the commissioning. Usually it happens at the MEPS facility, the Military Entrance Processing Station, before the individual even steps onto the bus, plane, or train to go to the training station to begin their military career.
It defines their everyday life in the military, regardless of what their classification is. Every moment in the life of their military service is spent with that commissioning statement in mind.
The Christian solider is no different and each one of us should know this commissioning statement that Christ gave to His disciples on the eve of His ascension to Heaven. Like George C. Scott's rendition of General Patton's speech to his troops, Christ stood before them and gave them the 'Great Commission', to go out among the world's population and declare the Good News.
Like the military's commissioning statement, this commission from God should define our everyday life regardless of whether we go to work as an CEO of a Fortune 500 company or work as a stay-at-home mother, raising our children.
Each moment should be spent in pursuit of that commissioning statement Christ left us with.
When the Christian faith saves another lost soul from the grips of the Enemy, and they publicly declare their intentions before the Body and the world, they should also be inducted into the 'service' of God's Army. It doesn't matter what their purpose is going to be in the Lord's service. We should remind them of what their overall mission is; to save those who are still lost.
From the Levite ministry member who cleans the church to the Pastor who shepherds the flock and everyone in-between, we are all called upon to assist in that primary goal. We, as human beings, are in a fallen state and are in need of salvation through the sacrifice and blood of Jesus Christ.
Are you fulfilling your commissioning statement? In your purpose given to you by God, is your primary focus upon learning, modeling, and then teaching those around you the commandments found in the Bible, or do you only clarify that which defines your purpose? Have you fully engaged in the declaration of the Lord that it is 'his desire that none shall perish' in your life?
Go back and reread your commissioning statement and always keep it in your mind as you go out each day, engaging in the fight over the souls of those who are lost.
Christ Jesus, Lord and King,
You gave each and every one of us a commission; to go out among the world and make disciples of men. To bring them into the realization of their sins and the need for Your cleansing blood given through Your death on the Cross and resurrection after three days.
Once we were lost and desperate in our own sinful state. You knew that some would reject You and declare themselves to be Your enemy, but You met them with compassion and love, always desiring that they would turn from their sin and rejoin the family of God. In each and every one of us, renew that commission; that we go out and declare Your truth, saving those who are lost, and teaching them the commissioning words we hold so dear.
In Your name, we pray.
AMEN

We most certainly must work in the Lord's harvest. Heb.9:28--To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for SALVATION. Acts 3:20--and that He may send Jesus Christ, who WAS PREACHED TO YOU BEFORE, (21) whom heaven must receive until the TIMES OF RESTORATION OF ALL THINGS. Is.49:8--I will preserve You and GIVE YOU as a covenant to the people, TO RESTORE THE EARTH. Yes, we most certainly should be about the Great Commission. Blessings, Sharon
