Between August and December 2005, 5 young men that we knew, lost their lives. Death reached out and took them, all in different, yet equally tragic circumstances. They were all young and they were all friends of our family. Thus we were faced with the frailty of human life and the finality of death, five times in as many months. 2005 and appalling tragedy became synonymous in our minds.

Then, as we were slowly coming to terms with the sorrow and loss of 2005, unbelievably, tragedy struck yet again. In July 2006 yet another friend lost his life in an aircraft accident and the sadness and heartbreak of 2005 rose to the surface once more.

It was some weeks later, while sleeping soundly one night, that a song began to play so loudly and persistently in my head that I was forced to wake up and write it down. This song was, I believe, given to me by God, not to keep for myself, but to share with the family and friends of those who died. Hopefully it will give them some measure of comfort and understanding, for I firmly believe that, for the child of God, it is only when we die that we truly begin to live. This world that we live in is temporary and when we pass on, we come into the glorious presence of God, our Father, our Creator and it is then that our spirits can fly.
I therefore, dedicate this song, with love, to them.
