I Am Weak, but He Is Strong

Many Christians have come to understand very early on that evil is ever present with us. If you haven’t you better recognize it! My husband says all the time, the greatest trick the devil ever played is convincing the world that he doesn’t exist. The apostle Paul clearly recognized that even when he sought to do good, evil was ever present with him (Romans 7:21). Three times he petitioned the Lord to remove the thorn in his flesh. Our Lord, sufficient in all delivering power, refused Paul’s dilemma to purpose in him and us an understanding that Christ’s power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9a). We have some thorns today, some hang ups that have us hung up!

Although we may not have been promised easy days, thanks be to God we have been promised a way out. We have victory today! We have a Great High Priest- “one that in all points was tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15).” Jesus was afflicted with every earthly affliction and bruised for our transgressions. What greater reason than to attack sin and temptation like our precious Lord and Savior- our true victor.

Gaining spiritual strength will inherently come from reading and feeding on truths of the Bible. It comes from being on our knees in prayer. It comes from fellowship with believers. It comes from serving in a biblically functioning church. There is no greater way to stay tapped into God’s power. Anything aside from being prepared is wasted, knowing that faith without works is dead. We have no testimony without the test.We have been charged, more than just heirs to the promise but, “to be ready always to give answer to every man that ask you a reason of the hope that is in you (2 Peter 3:15).” I have to appreciate my thorns. I feel much like Paul did, I will “boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me (2 Corinthians 12:9b).” Though the enemy seeks to destroy me, the Father seeks to build my character. God the Father sent His Son that I may have life and life more abundantly. How then does a weak man gain strength? It is through rigorous training and a daily regime of feeding on the Word of God. Recognizing that all my help comes from the Lord.

Life can be just plain hard, and it was never the intent of our heavenly Father for us to walk it alone. Any great successes or moments of feat over the enemy have only been with the leading of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples as he left them to ascend into heaven, “ye shall receive power, after the Holy Spirit is come upon you (Acts 1:8).” We need to remember that we are more than conquerors through Him who saved us. Praising God because the battle has already been won! Thank you Jesus for Calvary! All is not lost, on the contrary, with expectancy we can come boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in the time of need (Hebrews 4:16). The enemy will not rob us any more, yet God allows it all that we may stay humbled and forever be reminded of my need for Him.

I encourage myself in Lord and as Paul says, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching for those things which are ahead (Philippians 3:13). My Pastor’s wife taught me this simple truth, we must forget the bad because it causes us to look down and we too must forget the good because it will cause us to look out. But praise be to our God when we forget both he then causes us to look up!
