"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not gaze about, for I am your God, I will make you strong; yea, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness" Isaiah 41:10 (NET)
When I served as a member of the Michigan National Guard, my classification was 95B, a Military Police-Combat solider. These are the soldiers who, with a Hummer and possibly a machine gun mount, go out on patrols in dangerous areas and are the ones who are usually surging ahead of the main body of the Army to secure positions in enemy territory. Since my time in service, they have combined the garrison MPs with the combat MPs, and these are usually the soldiers that we hear about being killed and injured over in Iraq. They walk the line between the insurgents who would destroy the future of that country and those who are working to unlearn the past and learn to defend their own futures.
As Christians, we can gather in our fortress of strength, of which God is our rock and some are called to perform 'garrison' duty. Others are called out to walk the line between light and darkness, encouraging and defending those newly found souls that have stumbled, ran, or even flew across that line. And, there are those souls, instilled with the strength of the Lord, and the stoutness of His protection, who are called to go INTO the darkness, shining their light and pulling from the clutches of the Enemy those souls who are trapped in the darkness of their sin.
Each member of God's Army is called according to their purpose, be it ministering to the tired souls in the fortress or rushing in without fear to the darkness, and we are each instilled with God's mercy, helping us to be righteous; God's strength, which enables us to do good things; and with God's grace, which allows us to walk without fear.
Have you taken this promise from God into your heart and soul? Do you step out in faith, knowing that you will be made without fear, without distractions, with the strength of God, and be held up by God's very right hand in which His righteousness flows? Are you fulfilling your role in God's Army?
Commander-in-Chief,
We are honored and humbled that You would use us to fulfill Your Kingdom purpose here on earth and grace us with Your strength, determination, focus, and righteousness through the example of Christ Jesus, and the gifting of the Holy Spirit as we engage the Enemy for the lost brothers and sisters in the darkness of sin's grasp.
Let us hear Your call, step forward with the declaration of faithful service "Send me", and fulfill with the righteousness of our kinsman Jesus Christ the purpose You have designed us to fill.
In Your Almighty and Powerful Name,
AMEN
