It mocks me.

I gaze in disbelief, trying to comprehend why I return. I always return, only to be scorned … rejected time after time.

I stare, wanting to connect; wanting to rationalize my reasoning, my behavior. It offers nothing in return.

I plead with myself, with God … with it.

Will I be shown no mercy?

I feel the heat of anger boil deep within me.

You summon me, then treat me as if I were a total stranger. Why?

Frustration builds.

I concentrate, using all my conscious energy to squeeze these manic thoughts from my mind.

Nothing changes.

Why do you torment me? I pound my fist into my hand. Why do I torment myself?

I turn my back on it.

I am powerless.

Depression consumes me. I no longer wish to engage my adversary.

Why do I allow this? Why can’t I get past this… I turn to face it. This small obstacle. I shake my head in disgust. It may as well be a wall.

I grab it, thrusting it high over my head, staring at the Godforsaken shape … wanting to destroying it, needing this treachery to end

I cannot. It will not change anything.

I return it to its rightful place.

I turn to walk away.

I mustn’t quit. I can conquer this blank piece of paper.
