Christianity sure ain’t what it use to be!
I remember back in the day when we use to smile at one another.
When was that you say?
Back in the day.
It must have been back in the day all right.
I smiled at a man yesterday.
He pulled out his wallet and asked me how much?
Christianity sure aint what it use to be.
What kind of woman do you think I am?
I was just exemplifying Christianity, the way I was raised.
To smile and be polite doesn’t mean I trying to give you a bite.
Christianity sure ain’t what it used to be.
I was at church the other day looking for a parking space.
I was happy as could be with a smile on my face.
Praising God that I was still alive and a part of the human race,
All of a sudden a man yelled at me “lady get out of my way,” as he drove past me in his nice convertible Mercedes.
I told my son as I smiled at the Guy and said “Jesus loves you too”,
Christianity sure ain’t what it use to be
I remember when Choir members use to get along
Now they fight over who is going to lead the song
Christianity sure ain’t what it use to be.
What happen to the days of feeding the hungry, helping the poor, visiting the sick and clothing the naked? Ain’t that what Jesus told us to do.
Now the hungry get hungrier, the poor get poorer, the sick get thrown out of the hospital and the naked lie on the street’.
Christianity sure ain’t what it use to be.
I remember growing up in the south with a can of beans and a piece of pork in the beans known as pork and beans.
But when somebody knocked at my door and told me they was hungry
I gave up the pork and the beans to help feed their body.
Than I gave them the word of God to feed their soul
Now someone knocks at your door
You are liable to get shot
Christianity sure aint what it use to be
Back in the day it took a village to raise a child
Before you made it home
All the things that you had done before you got home, good or bad
Was already known by your parents or in my case by my auntie
You had better hope and pray that you had a good day
Either a nice piece of pound cake was waiting or a big thick switch,
But that was the way it was,
Kept you out of trouble
Let you live to see another day.
Now you can get mugged, raped or killed
and not one-person will raised a brow.
Christianity sure aint what it use to be
Back in the day you could stand for what was right
You weren’t afraid to fight the good fight,
Tell the devil where to go,
stood on the word bold and brave
proclaimed Jesus from the highest mountain top,
Now when someone asks about Jesus,
People say they are a spiritualist? What’s that?
Christianity sure aint what it use to be
Christianity should define the very essence of your being.
You don’t need to stand from a mountain shouting that you
are a Christian. If Christianity is what it should be than Christianity will be seen in
you from wherever you are.
Christianity - to exemplify Jesus Christ in all that you do, so that when others look
at you they will know without a doubt that Christianity is still what it use to be.
You see Jesus ain’t dead. He is alive.
Jesus lives in you.
That is if Christianity is what it should be.
