The Transformation of a Soul

It was Monday, warm fall evening in October, I was rushing home from work, I had to be at the church by 7:00 pm. This was the first of five days of church revival. The evangelist was from Mexico, Mo. He was a great preacher and teacher of the Word and I was looking forward to hearing his sermon. It was 6:00 pm and I still needed to shower and change into my usher uniform. I picked my daughter up from the babysitter and rushed home. We ran into the house, my son Andre was home when I arrived and was sitting on the couch. I were so worried about him lately, he seems so depressed. It has been a year since his first eye surgery, and he has had three surgeries since. He still lost vision in his left eye, no known cause , not a diabetic, no trama to the eye. He had a detached retina, catarats, and a laser surgery to repair his vision, vison in his right eye is now 20/15, Thank God for that.

Every day seems like he was getting more and more withdrawn and so depressed. I looked at him on the couch I thought about what a wonderful young man he was, so respectful, loving and kind, how could this happen to him? All at the age of 26. I knew this had to be devastating to a young man , he couldn't drive at this time, I imagined that his world must seem very dark right now. O how he loved to play basketball, and his dream of one day playing in the NBA, all gone now. I prayed please God help him.

My heart was so filled with compassion for him, I stopped and told him that I was going to revival, I asked did he want to go with me? He looked at me as if to say Give me a break God doesnt' care about me. I went on upstairs and showered and change and when I came downstair he had left. My daughter, Aja' was watching television, I gathered up my keys, purse and put my daughter's sweater on and left. I drove out of the driveway and started toward the expressway, but decided to go straight and when I rounded the corner, I saw Andre walking. I stopped and asked him where he was going, He said, over my friends house. I then said "Come go to my friends house with me". he said" Mom the service will be long". I said not tonight. This is the first day of revival.He agreed to go got into the car, as I was driving he said, Mom I was walking back and forth on this street trying to decide where to go. I just looked at him and thought to myself God had you waiting for me. We arrived at the church and service had already began.

I took my post at the door and Andre and my daughter sat down in the back of the church. The choir began to sing. Then it was time for the Minister. He preached a message about "Dry Bones". I was watching Andre, because he was up on his feet clapping and responding to the message and smiling something I had not seen for a while. I just watched him thanking God at the same time. When the service was over I asked him, How did you like the service? He said it was good.Tuesday night I came home he was sitting on the couch. This time he had on a nice pair of pants and sweater, I didn't have to ask where he was going I knew. I changed and we left, this night he didn't sit all the way in the back he had moved forward a couple pews. Andre was up and down thoughout the message clapping for the Minister. I continued thanking God for the change in him.

On Wednesday,the third night of revival Andre sat closer toward the front of the church. The choir was singing Joy In My Soul.The Minister came forth and began his message, be began by singing " I got a Feeling Everything Going to be Alright. He began his sermon, when he finished something happen. I watch Andre get up and walk toward the front of the church spread both arms out to his side and dropped to his knees at the Altar. I thought My Lord, I started toward the front of the church. At the altar, he was on his knees crying and praying, I started toward him and it seem as if something stopped me and said "Wait", I stood there I don't know how long, it seemed as if the only people in the church was my son and I. I knew then that God had heard my prayers. I started toward him and when I put my hand on his shoulders, it felt as if someone had placed a newborn baby in my arms, I began to cry, The Minister started singing again , "I Got A Feeling Everything Going to be Alright" I looked around the church people was crying and it was at that moment I knew in my heart and soul that God had stopped by and transformed a soul.

Today Andre lives in Springfield Mo. with his family and is back enjoying life as he should, Prayer does work and Faith is the Key.
