My Daily Funeral

Growing in Christ can be harmful to the flesh. I have been stretched, been out on a limb of faith. I have stumbled and fell more times than I care to recall. I attend my own funeral daily. I remember the funeral for alcohol, though it was with me for a long time, I didn’t miss it once it was gone. Tobacco had a slow lingering death; it stayed in the intensive care unit for years, when you thought death was imminent, it would spring back to life. It finally died in August of 2001. How I wish death wasn’t so painful.

I still struggle with pride; it has been resurrected as many times as it died. It’s not as bad as it was, but anyway you look at it, it’s a monster that needs to be layed to rest. I occasionally sit in judgment and some of my writings reflect that. The finger pointing is a funeral that I long to see. Why can’t we die once and for all to the flesh? You know, just get it over with. Don’t you wish there was a spiritual easy button?


I’ve been told that I need to listen more, you know the old saying, you have two ears and only one mouth. I have many faults but I’m on the Potters wheel, round and round I go. I’m the clay in His hands. No matter what our short comings are or what bad habits that haven’t seen death, we’re still in the Potters hands. Everything is done according to His time not ours and His knowledge is greater than ours. His mercies endure forever.

Lord, forgive me for not always reflecting your glory. I lay everything at your feet. Birth in me a new heart and wash me white as snow where You can be seen instead of me. I turn the helm over to you, long as you’re in the boat it can’t sink. Amen
