Reverence

I watched the ceremonies, as always in awe of the reverence and beauty afforded to a man who once led the Nation, yet I couldn’t help but think about the reverence afforded to a man who will be placed in a tomb that will be sealed. Yes, he was a great leader, and America has an incredible way of showing respect to those we admire and respect, nevertheless, he is a man.

He is a man that was born, walked the earth, grew in rank and stature making a name for himself and in the end, has died like every other man and woman has or will do. The tomb will be marked, and in the future will be a place many will visit and lay flowers of remembrance; nevertheless, he was a man. He led a Nation and set laws in place, but he never healed, delivered, saved or promised life. His blood could not cure or cleanse; he was just a man.

Jesus was born, walked the earth and eventually died. Through town he carried his cross, endured persecution and ridicule and He had done nothing to deserve the treatment He received. He had healed, restored life, delivered, saved, freed and loved. He forgave when others wanted death; He healed when doctors could do nothing else; He spoke life and the dead lived. He walked a lonely, humiliating road. Led to His death like a common criminal. He was not afforded the reverence that we give to our dignitaries. No, He was cursed and stones were thrown; He was mocked as the crowd screamed in unison, KILL HIM!

Yet, He was more than a man.

His body was removed, wrapped in burial clothes and placed in a tomb! A stone sealed the grave as a handful of people mourned his death tucked away in the upper room, fearful for what was to come. All of His great acts and displays of love did not fend off His crucifixion! He died just as the criminals who hung beside Him; yet the grave could not hold Him! The stone that sealed His body away was no match for the Lord God Almighty!

Today, as we pay great respect to a man that once led our Nation; let’s remember that he is still just a man! Jesus Christ walked the earth and gave His life so that we may live! Although He did not receive the reverence He deserved, HE REIGNS today, while others simply are laid to rest!

Rejoice today! Hope endures!

Rejoice today! Love Reigns!

The grave could not hold our KING!

And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, whish was, and is, and is to come. Revelations 4:8

Jesus Christ our Risen King! We pay so much respect to mortal man and so often fail to acknowledge You! Lord, help us not to forget what You accomplished on Calvary! Open our eyes so that we may see You for who You are and to give You GLORY, HONOR and PRAISE for which You deserve!
