Let’s start off by saying that I am a big Denver Broncos fan. I watch every game, and was needless to say, a little disappointed in our loss to the 49ers on New Years Eve last night. But more importantly, this morning I wake up and am checking the news and my email, to find that our cornerback, Darrent Williams was murdered early this morning. He had left a night club and was driving in downtown Denver when his limousine was shot down by a stream of bullets. A few other people were injured, but Williams was killed.

What is a person to make of all of this? What a terrible thing to happen to just a young and aspiring person. I know that as I mature in my walk with God, these kinds of questions will always come up. How does God let something this atrocious happen? How do we look at the news everyday and see the deaths in Iraq and become numb to them? What has our world turned into? The answer is a fallen one.

I am no expert by any means, and I still have a lot to learn to become more Christ-like. But some comfort that I find in hearing this terrible news, is that God will never leave any of us alone. He will always be here for us when we are broken and grieving. I urge all of us to pray for Darrent’s family and the Denver Broncos family as they try to make sense of all of this tragedy.

This is a reminder to all of us, that everything can change when we least expect it.
Make sure to hug the people you love and to never leave something unsaid or undone. Don’t plan on doing it the next time. Live for today, your life as a beautiful offering to God.
