LET'S DO THE MATH

Every now and then it is a good exercise to check the math. God Himself was/is/will be the Master Mathematician. God explained ideas and concepts using numbers. Some numbers occur over and over in Scripture: 3, 7, 12, 40. God probably doesn't expect all of His children to be mathematicians. But in today's world being dominated by liberals, evolutionists, and secularists---I believe a few fundamental ideas are helpful to know. Those who bombard you with the VERY OLD EARTH, the VERY OLD UNIVERSE, the VERY OLD ANYTHING for the explanation of life---need to be challenged.

God is amazing when he COMPARES numbers. Compares one number with another number. I will call this simply the 'multiplication factor,' the MULTIPLIER.

The first multiplier with which I will deal occurs in Psalms and 2 Peter---the SAME multiplier.

Psalm 91:4: "For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by..." And, again, "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." 2
Peter 3:8. Comparing TIME with TIME: 1,000 years = 1 day. Since there are 365 1/4 days in our year---that makes a numerical comparison of 365,250 to 1, or 365,250 days = 1 day. A nifty MULTIPLIER of 365,250. Wow!

Now let's give this multiplier a PHYSICAL name---the AGING FACTOR: 365,250 days is the same as 1 day.

When our friends, for instance, say the earth is 2.2 BILLION years old and we apply the AGING FACTOR, the amount of time is only 6,023 years---an amazingly YOUNG earth.
(Divide 2.2 billion by 365,250)

There is other evidence that God had a STRONG HAND on this AGING FACTOR: "Early in the morning, as He (Jesus) was on His way back to the city, He was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road. He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then He said to it, 'May you never bear fruit again!' IMMEDIATELY (while they were watching) the tree WITHERED. When the disciples saw this, they were AMAZED. 'How did the fig tree WITHER so quickly?' they asked." Matt 21:18-20. Read Matt 21:21,22 to hear the UNFOLDING of the FAITH FACTOR.

So what was the AGING FACTOR in this case? Jesus did not supply us with numbers---but the words IMMEDIATELY and WITHER should tell us that the hand of God Almighty is involved in the AGING FACTOR---implying a YOUNG EARTH, YOUNG UNIVERSE.

There are two instances in Genesis in which God put His hand on our physical world: the CURSE on the ground in Gen 3:17b. "Cursed is the GROUND because of you..."I believe this to be a GLOBAL CURSE. Suppose, just suppose, God SPEEDED up the AGING FACTOR as it applies to geology RIGHT THEN. Again., God holds the numbers. We are given the principles.

The Lord speaking to Cain. "Now you are under a CURSE and driven from the ground...When you work the ground, it will no longer yields its crops for you..." Gen 4:11a.12a. This may have been a LOCAL CURSE, applied in the Mideast area.

Today's society has put God in the trash can---and shut the lid. He is very much in control of His universe and His earth.
His Word gives us glimpses of His Almightiness and Sovereignty. I hope this document gives you that glimpse! And know from this that GOD IS "YOUNG" AT HEART.
