PROPS:
Military uniforms – 3 + 2 medics
Canteen
Wine (big fancy communion cup)
Large loaf of bread
Oil
Stretcher
Blankets with a cross on them


Stage is clear with only two chairs or beds and the props used for ministering. ENTER JOHN dragging MARK rushing from the back of room up center aisle to stage.

MARK: (screaming with pain) I can’t go on, I just want to die. It hurts so much.

JOHN: Hang in there Mark. You’re gonna make it. You’re gonna make it!

MARK: John, I never saw him coming. I never even heard him. He was just there.

JOHN: I know, I know. I didn’t see him coming either. But, you’re gonna get through this, Mark.

MARK: No. I just can’t go on. I’ve lost too much already. I let everybody down. I let you down. I let the commander down.

JOHN: You were following orders, Mark. We were all following the orders.

MARK: Then what went wrong?

JOHN: I don’t know. But, we’re safe now. Here, have some water. (feeds him water with canteen.)

MARK: Where is he, John?

JOHN: Where’s who?

MARK: The commander. Why isn’t he coming.

JOHN: We called for help, Mark. They’ll be here soon.

MARK: I can’t hold on much longer.

JOHN: You just need to rest. Try to relax.

(PAUSE)

MARK: I’m scared, John.

JOHN: There’s nothing to be afraid of. You’re in a safe place now.

MARK: But, I’m afraid for the future. My wife….the kids….my job……the bills….

JOHN: Don’t worry about tomorrow, Mark. I think we have enough to do today.

MARK: But….it’s…my mother-in-law.

JOHN: (Concerned) You’re mother-in-law? What is it? Is she sick?

MARK: No, no. She’s fine. It’s just that……she’s moving in with us.

JOHN: Oh, oh. Well, I feel you’re pain.

Enter LUKE and PETER carrying MATT on a stretcher.

PETER: Incoming!

LUKE: Make room! This one is critical!

JOHN: What happened?

PETER: Another sneak attack.

LUKE: There’s been attacks everywhere.

PETER: Right in our own backyards.

JOHN: Is he gonna make it?

LUKE: It’s pretty serious, but I think we can help him.

MARK: It’s the enemy. He’s too smart. He knows our every move.

PETER: He’s smart. But, he ain’t that wise.

JOHN: What’s going on? I’ve never seen anything like this.

MARK: I don’t think I can go back out there.

PETER: No one is asking you to go back out there. You just need to rest.

LUKE: I don’t feel so well.

PETER: What’s wrong?

LUKE: I’m not sure it just hurts.

PETER: Where? Where does it hurt?

LUKE: (Aggitated). I don’t know. It just…does…..ahhhhhh! (Holds stomach and keels over in pain)

PETER: (Tries to catch him.) Help me get him up! (Commanding) Soldier, help me get him up!

JOHN: I can’t. (Slowly) I just can’t do it anymore. I’m really tired. (Slowly falls to the ground)

PETER: Get on your feet soldier! Your brothers need you.

JOHN: Ok…ok….I’ll try.

PETER: (Helping him up) That’s all I’m asking. You can help these brothers more than you realize.

Start MUSIC: Soloist (from corner of stage) “Wounded Soldier” as performed by Steve Green.

During song:

PETER and JOHN begin to minister to LUKE with bread and wine until he is able to get up. PETER, JOHN and LUKE move to MARK and minister to him with bread, wine and blanket. ALL minister to MATT, cover him with a blanket and help him up. He can’t make it up on own. ALL pick up stretcher and carry MATT out through the audience and EXIT through the center aisle to back of room. Stage is left empty and song is finished with just SOLOIST.

Obeying their orders
They fought on the front lines for our King
Capturing the enemies stronghold
Weakened from battle
Satan crept in to steal their lives
