Short Stories
As the year comes to an end, we think of all the things in the past years and the years yet to come. We make our plans for maybe a party or how we will spend the New Year’s Eve night, and one of the most often things we do is make a New Year’s resolution for the upcoming year. What is a resolution: (1) The act or an instance of making a firm decision ( 2) A firm decision (3) Determination or resoluteness: Thesaurus, resolve, willpower, courage, constancy, determination, firmness, dedication, earnestness, perseverance, grit, purpose, steadfastness; Antonym: indecision. (4) The act or an instance of solving or finding the answer to (a problem, question, etc).
I think everyone makes a New Year’s resolution, but, the question is do we keep them.
Now lets look at another word that we can put in place of a resolution the word is commitment:
(1) The act of committing someone or oneself; Thesaurus: pledge, vow, guarantee, obligation, assurance
(2) The state of being committed.
(3) A usually irrevocable undertaking or responsibility.
Although the two words are very much the same things, except for we forget to stand by our resolution but
hold true to a commitment. We do not make resolutions to God (I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause ) we commit to Him, Jesus did not resolute to die on the cross he made a commitment to die for our sins. As we spend the New Year with family and friends making our New Year’s resolutions let commit to the resolution ( Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring (it) to pass) and be assured that we will honor the resolution ( Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.) Whether you make a resolution or not God is committed to you.
