What sin is…

1. Active rebellion against the laws and commands of God
Conscious, deliberate, intentional, embracing temptation

2. Passive breaking of God’s moral standards
Unconsciously, automatically, unwillingly, unresisting to temptation, not recognizing it as temptation

3. Negligently failing to do what we know should be done.
This rises out of a fear of man rather than of God.

What sin does…

1. To the unbeliever
< a. Separates them from God
< b. Brings about the wrath of God
< c. Twists the mind and hardens the heart
< d. Enslaves and deceives
< e. Hurts others and themselves


2. To the believer
< a. Disrupts fellowship and relationship
< b. Brings discipline from God
< c. Quiets the voice of the Holy Spirit
< d. Pulls them out of God’s will
< e. Hardens the heart if left unrepented

Why God Hates Sin

1. As sovereign God, He must hate sin because it is an act of rebellion against
Him as rightful ruler of everything.

2. As creator and as a loving Father, God hates sin for what it does. It twists and
destroys His creation, it disrupts His fellowship with His children
