Sister’s in Christ

I walked into my daughter’s place of employment and was approached by a lady asking if I was her mother, there was a resemblance; I could not deny this kid was mine! I smiled and told the lady that in fact she is my daughter. Not sure where this conversation was going, I allowed her the space of silence to speak next.

“You done good,” she spoke in her broken native tongue, “she is the sweetest, happiest young lady we’ve ever met. Her smile radiates in this place and she always makes everyone smile and be happy, even when we are in a bad mood,” the she added, “when we see she is working we look forward to coming to work.”

I thanked her for the compliment and we went our separate ways. As I drove home I felt a surge of pride! This was my kid! Her beautiful happy go-lucky attitude was spreading into the world of her first job! The Jesus inside of her was flowing out! YAY, something was going right!

I couldn’t shake the happy feelings and thoughts and soon I began to realize that she was more than my child, she was a child of God and if I was feeling this swell of happiness how much more was her Father experiencing this? God must be proud!

Here is a beautiful young lady, living out Jesus in a crowd of people. I had to keep myself in balance as I thought back to the hard times she and I had endured. I had made many mistakes as a parent, even though at the time I thought I was right. She had sowed a few wild oats and for a while it seemed her future might not turn out so good. Nevertheless, somehow, through her experiences she turned her heart to God, and began a journey of coming to know Christ in a personal way!

Had I done something to write a book about? No, I have simply been a parent that made mistakes! It was trial and error and eventually after so many errors I discovered this child had to be placed on the altar and left there!

Learning how her co-workers feel and how God radiates from her has been a major part of my thoughts this week as she approaches her 17th birthday! I am blessed to have a daughter with a heart that beats for God! She does not compromise in her stand for truth, but she approaches with gentleness and meekness! She might not be able to tell you exactly what the fruits of the Spirit are, but I see them ripening in her life, and I know that as happy as I am, God is smiling even more.

I am humbled by the fact that He allowed me to be the conduit in which this child was born. I recognize that I am her mother, but even more so, she is His daughter! As much as I love her, He loves her even more! Although we are mother and daughter, even more so, we are sisters in Christ!

The father of the [uncompromisingly] righteous (the upright, in right standing with God) shall greatly rejoice, and he who becomes the father of a wise child shall have joy in him. Proverbs 23:24 (AMP)
