Return to Me the Joy of Thy Salvation

The Psalmist asked the Lord to “return to me the joy of Thy salvation.” I don’t remember exactly where this is in Psalms but I know it’s there. I have realized lately that every single time I pray this little prayer, God is faithful. He showers me with such love and joy. It just makes me want to raise my hands, dance and sing! (And I am Baptist!:) ***smile***

Now before somebody gets the wrong idea and says something like: “It’s not all about feelings, it’s about faith.” I would like to say: Yes, you are exactly right! But sometimes we, as humans need to feel God’s love just to take us higher in our walk with Him. It confirms to us just how faithful our God is. And I believe if we stay in His will, He is gracious and will never deny us. God is good to His children, all the time, no matter the circumstances of everyday life. I truly believe He will honor this prayer every time. He has so far for me! It is a beautiful experience to go back to that original overwhelming joy that just bubbles up inside you until you cannot hold it in. You just gotta tell somebody!

Try praying this prayer and see what happens. But get ready - you are going to have to start witnessing about His love!

Lord, return unto me the joy
Thy salvation did first bring
Shine Your Holy light upon me
Make my spirit to sing!

I am walking in Your mercy.
I am kept by Your grace.
I pray for Your Holy Spirit
To shine upon my face.

I praise Your name so Holy
My faith is all I need
My Jesus, resurrected!
My soul has been made free…

Julia, you are so right! God does have to restore unto us the joy of our salvation. Life can get us down, but God can lift us up. If we get down, then we need to turn to Him. He will give us joy, even amidst sorrow and pain. Good article. Thanks

Julia,
This is an awesome lesson on Psalm 51:12. Sometimes we need to "feel" His nearness and yes, sometimes we know by faith that He is so close to us. May He be near to you today. Blessings.

“It’s not all about feelings, it’s about faith.” It's sad that we live in a day when feelings are not to be felt. I have often wondered and grieved over this. How is it that a triune being, you and I, are NOT to live in 1/3 of our own being? "Jesus wept" because of faith. "And moved with compassion..." because of faith. I say, and always will, that faith may come first and rightly so, but will there not be feelings following right behind it? Joy that produces no feelings? Can that rightfully be called Joy?

Godly joy is not to be confused with human emotional highs. Yet, life without emotion is impossible, and the joy of our salvation sure gives a lift to our emotions. Thank you, Julia, for pouring out your heart to us in this.
