What’s in your heart?

What is it that makes a person what they are?
Is it something inside of a person?
Is it something outside of a person?

These questions are answered in Scripture, God has given mankind His truth, and it is the whole truth, and nothing but the whole truth. For those of you who automatically reject anything that has to do with the Bible, or Christianity, you should take a moment to open up your mind and spirit, and see what God has to say.

ISV Mark 7:20-23
20. …. "It is what comes out of a person that makes a person unclean.
21. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil thoughts come, as well as sexual immorality, stealing, murder,
22. Adultery, greed, wickedness, cheating, shameless lust, envy, slander, arrogance, and foolishness.
23. All these things come from within and make a person unclean."

Lets examine this passage a little closer shall we? God is telling us that what is inside of us that is expressed in the way we think, talk, and live our daily lives that show what we are really made of.
“For it is within the human heart” is not referring to our heart that pumps blood to our bodies, rather it is referring to the heart of a man, which is his inner most being. This shows us that every kind of evil thing imaginable is produced from deep within us, and this is what determines the type of person we really are.

Matt. 15:18-19
18. But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and it is those things that make a person unclean.
19. For it is out of the heart that evil thoughts come, as well as murder, adultery, sexual immorality, stealing, false testimony, and slander.

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee.

“For as he thinketh is his soul, so is he.” Now we can put a name to our innermost being “his soul”. Yes in our soul is where we draw our thoughts, words, and actions from, what is in our soul is reflected in our outward behavior, and most of the time it is not so good.

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

What is inside our soul also reflects what we will hold near and dear, what we will treasure in life, what we will value most. What we value is where our thoughts and affections will be; it will have a major bearing on our lifestyles.

If you are of person that does not take stock in spiritual things, you might be discounting everything that is being said here. You might not take much stock in the Bible because you don’t think it is of much use, or is just another so-called holy book, and is no more valid than any other holy book. Guess again! The Bible is self-validating, providing it’s own proof of itself within it’s own pages and words. It is God’s word to us as human beings; it is truly the Living Word of God.

ISV Hebrews 4:12-13
12. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.
13. No creature can hide from him, but all are naked and helpless before the eyes of the one to whom we must give a word of explanation.

Notice what this is saying, God’s word is not just some book, it is active, powerful, it affects our very thoughts and intentions. It also reminds us that no one can hide from God, because he sees and hears everything, there is nothing He does not know about us. So it is clear then that what lives inside of us decides the type of person we are as well as the things we do, and the words we say. You cannot get away from God, so what is a person to do then? Well let’s take a look shall we.

This is where Christ comes into the picture.
John 1:14 So the Word became human and lived a little while among us, and we actually saw His glory, the glory of One who is an only Son from His Father, and He was full of spiritual blessing and truth.

Jesus Christ is the Word of God in human form who was the perfect fulfillment of prophecy. The Old Testament prophesied about Him, and the New Testament revealed Him. He is the very essence, the exact reflection of God the Father.

Is there any other word of God? The answer is no, only the spoken Word of God which is the audible voice of God, and believe me when God speaks you had better listen. See what he has to say!

Now we have already established that our lives outwardly are a representation of what is inside of our souls, that what we are on the inside will show up in our thoughts and actions, and will decide what type of person we will be. Basically if you put garbage in, you will get garbage out, but actually the garbage is already there from the beginning. There is a big fat lie going around this world that claims that people are basically good, and that evil is something that we learn from our environments, WRONG! That is not what God say’s, He say’s that we are basically evil and devoid of anything remotely decent.

Jeremiah 17:9 the heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?

You see we as humans are most corrupt on our own, we can not begin to understand the depth of our own vile corruption, but God knows, and he sees what is inside us and will reward us accordingly. What else does God say?

Romans 3:10 As it is written, "Not even one person is righteous.

v11 No one understands. No one searches for God.

Romans 3:23 since all have sinned and continue to fall short of God's glory.

WHOA! Do you see what I mean, we as human beings are totally unrighteous, and stand as sinners before God, and we will not naturally seek out God by ourselves.

Romans 1:18 For God's wrath is being revealed from heaven against all the ungodliness and wickedness of those who in their wickedness suppress the truth.

We stand literally waiting for God to execute His judgment upon us because of our wickedness, and ungodliness. Look at the end of this verse, so you see what it says? It say’s that those who are wicked and evil are doing everything in their power to suppress the God’s truth. Have you seen any examples like that in our society today? I have, it is happening everywhere around us, those who are lost in darkness are doing everything possible to suppress the truth of God’s Word. It is because they naturally gravitate toward evil because they are lost and on their way to hell. God’s Word makes it very clear that those without Christ already stand condemned awaiting their eternal execution, like a convicted murderer in the final hours before he goes to the electric chair. People live like they will never die, they are arrogant, and curse God to his face with their wicked lives. Mark God’s word my friend, their destruction is not sleeping.

So what is a person to do? How can you and I escape the judgment of God? Is there a way of escape? The answer is yes! There is a way.

Romans 5:6 For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, Christ died for the
Ungodly

Romans 5:7 For it is rare for anyone to die for a righteous person, though somebody might be brave enough to die for a good person.

Romans 5:8 But God gives proof of his love to us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Do you see what God is trying to tell you? He is telling you that just at the right time, when you and I were utterly helpless, and on our way to hell with no hope. God came in the flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, and died for us, He literally took our place. Why would God do that? Because he loved us so much that He could not just let us all perish for all eternity.

John 3:16 "For God loved the world so much that He gave His Only Son,so that anyone who trusts in Him may never perish but have eternal life.

This is one of the most popular verses in Scripture, and yet not understood at all by many people who haven’t taken the time to seriously look at what this verse say’s. You might be asking, “Why would God love me that way?” Just because he does, and God has proved it through His Son. God created you and I as human beings because of love, and He wants us to love Him in return. But we are totally inept when it comes down to it, and we do not naturally love him, or anything to do with him. He gave us the free choice to choose to love him or despise him. You have the right to reject him if you choose too, however it comes with a big, big price. If we do not accept his truth, and do not receive His free gift of Salvation, then even though he died for you and took your place, you will have to pay the price yourself, and that means you will spend eternity apart from God in a terrible place of torment. You see it all comes down to “What’s in your heart?”

Salvation is a free gift that we can only obtain through faith in God, faith in what Christ did for us that we could never do for ourselves, that is make ourselves right with God. A person that receives God’s Gift is freely justified by faith. Justified means that God no longer looks at them as ungodly, unrighteous, and wicked, he does this because of his great love for us. You see this is how a loving God can cast a person into hell, because they have not been freely justified by faith, they have not accepted Christ who took their punishment for them on the cross, where God placed all of His anger and wrath on Christ, and Christ willingly took it upon himself on our behalf.

Romans 5:10 For if while we were hostile to God we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, it is still more certain that now that we are reconciled, we shall obtain salvation through Christ's life.

1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Romans 5:9 So if we have already been brought into right standing with God by Christ's death, it is much more certain that by Him we shall be saved from God's wrath.

Now that you know the truth that you are utterly helpless, and hopeless, and are unable to save yourself from God’s wrath. You have seen how God provided Salvation for you through the Death of His Son Jesus Christ. What is required of you is simple faith, just receive what God has done for you out of His great love. You may say that you don’t believe in hell, but if it is true, can you afford to find out when it’s too late. Wake up friend eternity is forever, and I don’t think you ought to be wasting time waiting around when God is offering you Salvation and Forgiveness for your sin today!

It would be a smart move to accept God’s free gift today. He will come to you and clean all the crud out of our life, and make you a new person, right now today if you ask him. He will place His indwelling Holy Spirit within you, give you a share of the very mind of Christ, and you will be a new creation in Christ Jesus . Why wait another minute to ask Christ into your life. Believe the Gospel message and pray this prayer of faith will all your heart and soul.

Dear Heavenly Father,
I am a sinner lost and on my way to hell. I repent of my sin, and confess that I do believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. That he died in my place on the cross of calvary, that he was buried in a borrowed grave, and that you Father God raised him back to life on the third day. I believe that Jesus in coming back for his bride the church any day now, and I want to be ready. So I ask you lord to come into my life and be my personal Savior, change me into the person you want me to be. I thank you for hearing my prayer of faith. In Jesus Holy name I pray. AMEN!
