Cliche Town ~ Screaming Demons
Tossing and turning
On a sweat-soaked cot
While the neon slashes
The dark
Drowning in the current
Of a single malt river
As oblivion swallows
You whole
You’re trying to forget
What your soul won’t deny
And your night slips away
Into madness
No shade in Hades
Would vie for your place
They’re content with their
Fiery torment
All it takes
Is a stray memory
And your soul gets run through
The grinder
Tonight’s no different
From eternities past
And the torment is endless
And cruel
The frame of her picture
Is all that is left
You’ve smashed it beyond
Recognition
You roil and you rage
And curse to the sky
But it’s all the same
Said and done
A sweet taste of heaven
Turned sour in your gut
And you’ve plummeted down
To the Abyss
You’re wracked with
The torture of once-kissed lips
That scream into nights
Once sacred
There’s no salvation
For a soul that is shattered
It’s just a matter of picking
Up pieces
And here you lie
In the wake of it all
Dark demons all shouting
In fury
You caught an angel
And bathed in her light
‘Til the shadows got
Washed from your soul
You fooled yourself
In a false redemption
But you’ll always be
Damaged goods
So you watched
In horror helpless frozen
As your angel got torn
From her wings
And down she sank
Into oblivion familiar
But for her it was Death
To the touch
She never blamed you
She didn't accuse
Just went like a lamb
To the slaughter
Now you’ve destroyed
The only thing sacred
You’ve ever held
In your arms
Twisted, disfigured
That beautiful soul
Not a shard of light
Left behind
Tortured and torn
Battered and bruised
Ripped from the skies
Now defiled
So you’re alone with
With eternity's night
Your guilt and your grief
As confessors
You cry out her name
In a plea for penance
But no one is offering
Remission
There’s no going back
To undo what you did
Her fate has been sealed
In stone
It’s just you and the night
And your tormentors alone
And your screams all fall
On deaf ears
What’s done is done
For better and worse
We all play the hand
That we’re dealt
If only, if only
You could be pure
And touch her like
She did for you
So you dream fitful dreams
Of soaring the heavens
And scouring the streets
For your Fallen
But there’s no escape
For you or for her
And that you both knew
From the start
It’s the fate that’s in store
For Heaven or Hell
And the denizens that call
Either home
And so there you lie
In the night’s neon
Waiting for the darkness
To come
But Darkness won’t claim you
She’s tainted you Good
And Heaven is holding
A grudge
There’s no place to go
You’re eternally trapped
In the Purgatory of your
Own desire
Nothing left for you
But empty the bottles
That help for a time
To forget
But it always comes back
And it’s always the same
In a haze of perpetual
Pain
Tossing and turning
On a sweat-soaked cot
While the neon slashes
The dark….
