Are You Listening To The Lord’s Voice?
© 2006

by

Stephen A. Peterson

After being betrayed and publicly portrayed as a traitor, Joan of Arc was brought before her accusers. One of her questioner asked Joan, “I am a bishop, a prince of the church! How is it that God speaks to you? You’re just a lonely, peasant girl! Why doesn’t He speak to me? Can you answer that Joan?”

“Your Eminence, the Lord does speak to you,” responded Joan.

“What do you mean? I’ve not heard Him saying anything,” snickered the bishop.

“But the Lord has spoken to you, Eminence, but you aren’t listening to what He has to say. I mean you no disrespect, sir; however, you choose to hear what you want to hear. You seem to try to interact with God with your head rather than with your heart. You cannot recognize His voice because the truth is not in you. What you are concern with are earthly matters and power. What concerns you does not concern God. Did our Lord not say before Pilate as He was being falsely accused of crimes and blasphemous acts He did not do or commit that those who know the truth hear His voice?”

Angered by her response, the bishop immediately dismissed her as possessed by the devil and should be executed as a heretic for the good of society. As Joan clearly and rightfully stated, the bishop chose evil calling it good and good, evil.

What about you? Are you listening to the Lord’s call to stand up for the truth? And do you call evil good and good evil because it is popular? Christians today are brought before the Pilates and bishops of public opinion, at work, in school, at the malls to answer these questions with regards to abortion, euthanasia, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, divorce, cohabitation, and calling them “good” in direct opposition to what God has told us. These seven great personal sins are as they are “SIN”. No amount of logic can justify a Christian remaining silent, uninvolved or afraid. Everyone CAN do something!!! They may encourage the more vocal, sign petitions, contribute their time, talent and treasure to defeat measures and persons who defy what we know to be right and true. The time is NOW!

Are you listening to the Lord’s voice?
