Psalms 62:5 (AMP)
My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him.
One day my pastor sat in my living room and proceeded to help me understand the current situation with my daughter. Everything I’d attempted had failed, she was addicted to drugs – a prisoner to the dark world. She’d spent seven days at my pastor’s house to no avail. She’d walked away shrugging off a change for the better, retreating into a world she seemed to know so well.
He looked me in the eyes and spoke the following, ‘you’re expecting too much out of her, your expectation should be in the Lord.’
He left and I was forced to face the issues at hand. As a mother had I been wrong to expect her to change? Had I been wrong to expect positive things for her or out of her? Eventually I found my Bible and Psalms 62:5 stood out boldly!
We all have expectations for our children or those we love, but the bottom line – we should place our expectations in the Lord! We will fail each other – that happens to be a facet of life we cannot shed. Most of the time the failures are not intentional, nevertheless, we will be let down and disappointed when we expect or put our hope in our human counterparts.
That day was a pivotal time in my life. I had expected so much from my daughter because I had raised her to simply no better than to make the choices she’d made. I’d raised her with morals and to love God! Yet, I was a player in a different ballgame.
Through much prayer I began to submit my expectations for my children to God. I began to lay them back on the altar and ‘trust’ that He knew better than myself! I had to place my hope and expectations in God who was incapable of failure!
Things turned around; we still had a long journey to go through, but God never failed!
I am determined even more so today, that HE NEVER WILL FAIL!
Where is your expectation today? Where is your hope?
My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him.
Lord of heaven and earth! We want to thank You for Your everlasting love and mercy! Thank you for never letting us down, for never failing us, for never giving up on us and for always being present! Lord today we know there are many who have placed their hope in things and people that have failed – we humbly ask that You would envelope them with Your special love today! Become real to them in magnificent ways! We love You more than words can ever say!
In Jesus Name, AMEN

I began to submit my expectations for my children to God. I began to lay them back on the altar and ‘trust’ that He knew better than myself! Hard to do. But necessary. And not easily learned... even after doing it more than once, with more than one child. But I did so with a baby who had seizures and God was faithful to deliver him, with a daughter on drugs and God was faithful to deliver her, and the list keeps going on and on throughout every area of my life. Submitting the totality of our lives and dreams and hopes and loves to the will of God is the only way to go! And He will never forsake us... no, never... no matter what things look like on the outside.
