Wars for Pleasure

Focus: James 4:1
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?

James explains to us that wars, conflicts, strife, arguments, confrontations and discords are a result of our own selfish desires and wants. Note that he didn’t refer to our needs, just our wants. God supplies all of our needs and eve4n some or most of our wants. We are drawn into conflicts and disputes when we place our desires above everything and everyone else.
God is love and when we accept Him onto our lives we filled with Him in love. This would (and should) encourage us to put others first. But when we allow the cares and standards of the world to choke or drown God’s love in us, we begin to allow the enemy of this world to convince us that our own selfish desires are more important than others and their needs.
When we are filled with the holy love of God and His word we can readily see the selfishness and futility of achieving our goals and desires over the needs of others. This is not to say that it is wrong to strive for our goals and dreams, but rather that we should not ignore the needs of others in the pursuit of our own wants.
So let us be mindful of our “motivation” to achieve and obtain and the effects it may have on those around us.
