There on the roadside stood an old man.
His face was wrinkled,
he had a tremble in his hand.
He bid me to stop, to give him a ride,
he gave me a grin, as he slid inside.
He said, "You know, I've let Jesus down,
I'm headed for a church,
Do you know where one can be found?"

I looked at him, saw a tear in his eye,
he rubbed his brow and said, "I'm gonna die."
He said, "I've got to talk to Jesus,
I need to speak with him,
He can give me eternal life--If I'm born again.
I've been hearing about the new birth.
You know, that's what I need,
before I leave this old earth.

There on the roadside, I took his frail hand,
I told him his search is over,
and saying, "Listen to me Dear Man,
I'm a man of the cloth,
what the Bible says in Romans is true.
If thou shalt confess with thy mouth
the Lord Jesus and shall believe in thine heart
that God hath raised from the dead,
thou shalt be saved and,
the new birth will be in you.

A little smile came upon his face,
he thanked Jesus for his salvation
and his almighty grace.
He found the new birth on the roadside that day,
his searching is over he's ready
to meet Jesus when he calls him away.

Yes,he found the new birth on the roadside
that day,
as the man in the cloth read the scriptures and prayed.
The frail old man is now ready to go home,
all that's left is for Jesus to call him on home.
