This Psalmists compares and contrasts the life of a committed child of God with that of those who only pay lip service to their Christianity or are outright rebellious or even God mockers.

Blessed is the righteous because...
We are introduced to the secret of the blessing of the righteous man, the God-lover, the redeemed -of -the -Lord; theblood-bought, blood-washed and blood -kept.

It tell us the passion and the delight of this man who is sold out to God and His ways.
He jumps at the word of God; whines and pines for it in regularity- not as an occasional pastime but it is His life –line. He wakes up thinking about it, reading it, eating it, drinking it, breathing it, meditating on it even as he brushes his teeth, taking his bath, taking his breakfast, on the way to work, in the car in a traffic jam or at the bus stop or in the bus, at work, on the way back from work and at the dinner table, when doing the washing up, before going to bed and even dreams about it. It is the source of his blessing and he is blessed just because of his love for the word of God.

He likens this man to a tree that is planted by the rivers of water. It does not struggle to get its nutrients by travelling long distances with strain on its root to get water. It is at its beck and call- a river at hand. It is in a luxurious surrounding. And the result is that it brings forth its fruit in its season. It does not fail the test when Jesus comes to eat figs from it even if it is not the season figs, it is ever-ready to serve the Master.

Although there are fruits that will only come at the proper season according to the divine plan of God, there are other fundamental fruits like love, joy peace, faith gentleness, goodness, kindness, patience, self-control , faithfulness, hospitality, zeal that are its bedrock- always there and growing in leaps and bound by the day.

Because this man buddies with the Holy Spirit and has the mind of Christ, consulting with Him at every point of decision-making, whatever He does prospers, abounds, multiplies and gives glory to God.

The ungodly, the scoffers, those who slink around Sin Saloon or Sin City, who attend Bad Mouth College are a different matter.
They set themselves up for the wrath of God. They dig holes that they later fall into or build gallows that they are later hanged on like Haman. They are like the dust, the chaff that the wind drives away, disperses unceremoniously, blows away without trace. They have their day in court, their day of reckoning and it is grim; a dooms day.

They cannot be found anywhere around the assembly of the righteous- at the Bema seat- when Jesus will be handing out gongs-prizes such as, the crown of glory, crown of righteousness, and crown of rejoicing to the redeemed, for their achievements in life.

The Lord is well acquainted with the way, the life-style of obedience and surrender of the righteous. But the ungodly, the scoffers and God –mockers will stew in their wickedness unless they repent- change their mind and mindless, ignominious and foolish ways.
