Am I my Brother’s Keeper…

Our local church has an outreach program where we have every Sunday afternoon , a Sunday school in certain areas . These areas are impoverished but every time I teach Sunday school there , I am blessed with some life changing lesson . Normally at the end of the lesson , I always ask the kids who want to be prayed over to come forward.

At one of these requests , two cousins were seated there , Justin and Raydon . These two always running around , being boys , you can never get their attention for more than 5 minutes . At this request Justin says out loud, please pray for Raydon , he was coughing in the morning .

With concern and urgency in his tone , Justin motioned Raydon to the front and I prayed over him. My heart was warmed with this gesture of love . He knew his cousin was sick and he recognized the call as an instrument of healing . Even when the other did not respond , he took him to the altar.

How many of us recognize that our brother is in need of help and the call of Christ is being made but we do not take him to the altar .Each man for himself , the world teaches . Yet Jehovah God sent his only begotten son to die for all mankind.

It’s been said that the most frequently quoted Bible verse is no longer John 3:16 but Matthew 7:1: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” Paul exhorts Christians, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Rom. 12:18). They should live “peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Tim. 2:2). On the other hand, behind the mask of an apparently sensitive and compassionate “open-mindedness,” there often exists the “Am I my brother’s keeper” If God on high saw fit to draw all men unto him , then we can surely say , it is a matter of urgency to recognise my brother and take him to the altar as the trumpet is being sounded and the King is coming soon.

Get a hold of someone that needs Jesus , hold them tight and take them to the altar . From the mouth of babes , he has ordained praise and from his fishers of men , he has drawn in the net of the unsaved. Respond to the call and don’t leave your brother behind. Soldiers penetrate the enemy’s territory to get back their own . When we carry out our moral duties we approximate the character of the Creator, and function according to God’s design for us. We carry out the purposes for which we were made and that is to be my brother’s keeper
