Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday September 7, 2006

For most of my adult life I have spent more than a reasonable amount of time exploring the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus recorded in John 3. The third verse of the conversation is especially blessed to me:

John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Simply stated a person must be born again, made a new creature through faith in Jesus Christ in order to enter, to perceive, to comprehend and enjoy the kingdom of God. Boat loads of books have been written in feeble human attempts to explain the depths of the verse.

Today I attempt to make the verse practical for use by the Christian and I do so with a quote from C.W. Leadbeater who was writing about something else when he wrote:

"It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to perceive."

According to scripture the unconverted cannot conceive of the kingdom of God and therefore assumes it does not really exist.

Joyce and I were recently praying and asking the Lord to 'show us the way where there appears to be no way.' We are praying about becoming more effective in the literature and prison ministry and realizing the tried program of developing a mission program is not really open to us, rather than giving up we prayed for wisdom from the Lord, for the leading of the Holy Spirit to show us the way, the way of which we are not aware.

The Great Blonde, my term of deep affection for the wife of my youth, said, "Honey, just because we cannot see the way, does not mean that the way is not there." Pretty good statement for a farm girl.

I must add that we are still in prayer concerning this and you may certainly join with us as we seek His face and perceive His plan.

Anyone who attempts anything different will in the course of the doing hit walls, gigantic obstacles that seem insurmountable. It is just at this point that you must keep on trusting Jesus and expecting the sea to roll back as did the Red Sea in the days of Moses.

The next time you 'can't see your way clear' remember C.W. Leadbeater's statement:

"It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to perceive."
