Do you have friends who gossip or that talk even about their friends? Gossip is usually the biggest problem towards ending friendships.

God says in the Bible, "An evil person causes trouble, and a person who gossips ruins friendships." Proverbs 16:28

This doesn’t mean you tell that friend not to be friends with you anymore. If she/he starts gossiping than change the subject. If they don't want to change the subject and quit gossiping, then you should ask them to stop gossiping. If they continue, then tell them that you can't stay and talk because it isn't right to gossip.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," by God.

But does this mean we love our neighbor just to get something out of it? No, Jesus was spit on and whipped and cursed at but He still forgave them. He said to His Father, "Dear God, forgive them for they don’t know what they are doing.” He didn’t just love his neighbors and friends He loved His enemies too.
