Bearing Fruit with the word John 15:1-8

1"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

Abide in Me
Jesus wants us to remain in Him, rooted in Him, anchored in Him, live move and have our being him.
To abide in Christ we must first of all come to know him as Lord and Savior Without Him resident in our lives we are hopeless, useless, blind, deceived, in great danger and dead. In His life we have life. In His light we see light and in His might we have might.

12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— (John1:12)

9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
(Rom10:9-10)

17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
(2Cor5:17)

After know him in a personal way we need to stay put in Him through regular fellowship with the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit.

His Word Abiding in Us
We must also love His word even more than our daily bread like Job. His word is powerful, life-changing, renewing, consolidating and strengthening.

We cannot afford to ignore His word because it is spirit and life. It is a mirror. It is a guide a coma-pass to life. It is God’s instruction manual on how to live a life of godliness. It gives wisdom and understanding and discretion. It is the will of God, the way of God; the mind of God. His Word is His will and His will is His Word.

Jesus is the Vine and we are the Branches.

We can see a picture of connectedness in this metaphor. We depend on Him. It is not by might nor by power but by His spirit. Once we are disconnected from Him, we become like a coal that has been removed from the rest of the fire that burned. That solitary coal soon goes cold and its glow will go out sooner or later.
Without abiding in Him we are of no use to others. We can also be a danger to ourselves.

The Husbandman
This is the Father who cultivates our lives, giving us the opportunity to bear fruit. He does this by pruning us. This process of pruning is usual very painful and it comes as we are exposed to trying situations that shows what is inside of us. Through the difficult circumstances we face we become more Christ -like as we trust Him through it all and eventually overcome.

16Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. (2Cor4:16-17)


Mind-blowing Promise
In verse 7 Jesus makes and incredible promise to those who abide in Him and let His word abide in them. He said they shall ask what they will and it shall be granted to them what a promise!
This seems a bit far-fetched, but it is the word of God and God is not a liar. If it is not happening, we must look at ourselves as to whether we are fulfilling the conditions attached. We must also realize that God has seasons and timing for the fulfillment of His promises. At the appointed time God will make everything beautiful if we have kept our path of the bargain.

Since we know that God will only answer prayers that are in line with His will, it follows that if His word is abiding in us the way it should, then we would not ask anything outside His will for our lives.

14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him (1John5:14-15)

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.(Rom.12:1-2)

Good does not just want us to bear fruit but much fruit.
And there a purpose for that- that His Father may be glorified.
In other words, if we are willing the Father will help us to bear the fruit that will glorify Him. And the fruit that will glorify Him is that which is bountiful and which remains- not a fleeting fruit, not a ‘cosmetic fruit but a luscious juicy fruit that will impact lives.
