Years ago, my heart was bathed,
With less than hate, called apathy;
Also with fear, my life was scathed;
A jester of hell; a dark travesty;
This had been all I would amount to,
A reckless trash heap, scorning the good;
I could not see any good in you,
For at the pit’s brink, I so stood;

‘Til came the Light, the truth of Christ;
He hunted for me, with pangs of love,
Having bought me with holy sacrifice,
He made me His own, now borne above;

Trials and falls have come and gone,
And by His goodness, used by His grace;
He used them all, as I’m His spawn,
That all may see in me, His glorious face;
A light’s broken through, killing apathy,
I only wish to sing of goodness’ Source,
For I have seen Him in His loving me,
And it’s become my glorious course;

And this I amount to: His great glory,
Moving onward from faith to faith;
He’s taken what was once so gory,
Releasing him from the dark wraith;
My new joy now; to exhort others;
For this is all I could amount to;
I wish to bring love to sisters and brothers,
And I do so, because I want to.
