Having searched the bible for a number of years now, I have come up with a number of devices to stop tithe collecting pastors in their tracks. They need to be stopped. They need to become informed. There is an evil outcome to this practice. Jesus is against it. The bible is clear on the subject.

This connection of tithing to Sodom has proved to be one of the more successful 'devices' causing pastors to "clam up". Over the years they learn devices to put Christians under guilt in order to get more money. God has provided His children with counter devices to give to those who "falsely accuse you of your conversation in Christ".

Abraham did not give a tithe to Melchisedek. I'll repeat that. Abraham did not give a tithe (of his property) to Melchisedek. Now that makes it a little different. It is one thing to say you are a tither and another to say you gave a tithe of something else or someone else's stuff. Abraham gave a tithe of the spoils. Abraham gave a tithe of someone else's stuff.

The spoils were clearly of the goods of Sodom. We know this cause Abraham gave the remaining stuff to the king of Sodom, saying "I will not take anything that is THINE". The 'thine' being the king of Sodom. Abraham is often touted as being a 'tither'. Clearly, he is not. As a wealthy man at the time of this giving of the tithe, he acted as an agent, giving away someone elses stuff.

What significance is there to this event. What is the Sodom connection. What does it mean. There are two verses to look at to get an idea of the significance of the first recorded tithe being of the goods of Sodom. One is in Revelation. The two witness lie dead in the streets of spiritual Sodom which is where the Lord was crucified. That is Jerusalem. How did Jerusalem get the dubious honor of being named after a destroyed town known for its terrible sins. One way was to themselves be destroyed. Jerusalem was destroyed the same as Sodom. One by fire from heaven the other by the "fire of battle". That is by war.

There is another parallel. Both had tithes taken of their stuff. Yes, they both had tithes taken from them. This is what I tell pastors when the subject comes up. "I do not have tithes taken of my stuff because I am not a spiritual Sodomite."
How is that for a stomp on one's big toe!!! Ouch!! Sorry, but it is true. You always stand on the truth of the word of God. You can bank on it to keep you safe in His arms. His love is not to be bought!! It also is not for sale.

The second verse to give to your pastor is in Deuteronomy 32. The 'vine of Sodom' is found in the 'storehouse'. Same as the 'storehouse' of Malachi 3 fame. Same Hebrew word. Go look for it. The 'vine of Sodom' is found in the treasury (storehouse). What is it doing in there? How did it get in there? What is the vine of Sodom and what and why did it get in God's storehouse. I will give you a clue. It is also found in Deuteronomy. Try chapter 14. It has to do with "money". You are to buy 'wine and strong drink' with this money. My best clue is that 'wine and strong drink' are from the 'vine of Sodom'.

God has very strong language describing 'shepherds' that are greedy of gain who love 'strong drink'. It is found in Isaiah 56. This drink is not found in a bottle. It is found at the feet of the evil one, who is the source of the 'vine of Sodom'. It is best to just 'leave it alone' as the prophet Zechariah counsels.

Yes, I do belive in giving money to those who minister, but please, do not call it a tithe.

"Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink." Isaiah 29:9
