Change

Ahh the lure of it, the fear of it, the promise, hope, and thrill of it.

Time and space are put in motion.
Depression and strife must be set aside,
Change has come and demands attention
That of the past must be denied.

The thoughts of it, dreams of it, talk of it, expectations of it, come with each passing day, but what really changes in the eternal sense? Circumstances surroundings daily routines may be altered, as with the seasons white to green to reds and yellows and back again; the earth spins and makes its yearly trip without change, as far as our brief candle matters in its scheme.

Yet ponder in depth, how nature reels in constant change as the earth and its movement demands. Creatures are powerless to stop the changes brought on by the awesome forces of the earth and the sun. Caught in a grip of allegiance and mortal wonderment to their laws, we are bound. Change will come, the earth neither hesitates nor slows, nor stops, nor shuts down for repair or re-invention or adjustment. Several millennia of mankind’s attempts have been little more than insignificant moving and switching of the earth’s surface texture, out of desperation and ambition, to suit mortal whims and needs.

The constant moving juxtaposition, of the heaven’s and the firmament’s interacting spheres of solid, liquid, and gaseous elements, seeks but never finds equilibrium. The physical universe’s transformation of matter to energy and back is locked within the elements. The great forces are constant, yet changing. To cease their eternal purpose cannot be imagined; time is wasted in that effort. Living creatures hear, smell, taste, see, and touch these eternal yet changing elements, being made of them, but we can no more stop what causes external change than we can stop our own internal atoms and molecules from obeying laws far beyond our mortal authority or comprehension.

Change is the very experience of existence, especially on this thin living membrane that joins the two great eternal entities of heaven and earth. Constant change is rained down upon all living creatures, composed of those very same elements, as we work, play, and live upon this comparatively thin and delicate surface. It is only upon 'the surface' that life exists: here in this active moving film, we thrive.

Fight and resist if you must, but examine with all your senses, your mind, and your heart if you ever have or truly can, affect anything at all. We haven’t the knowledge, power, or authority to stand in the way of change. We can anticipate and embrace it as its momentum builds; compelled to make adjustments; hoping for advantages to the living as yearly, generational, and cyclical waves of change ebb and flow like the tide. We pray for rest, and in those brief lulls, like low tide, we build our sand castles, relax, and enjoy how we’ve handled ourselves during the changes.

What is it that we truly control but our own attitudes and reactions? And therein, direct a miniscule beneficial adjustment of the timeless patterns of the matter/space constancy.

Fearing change--is to run and hide from everything eternal and absolute.

Arrogance in the face of the eternal--is folly of another sort.

Embracing, understanding, riding out, and positively experiencing change is the only realistic option.
