Going To Vote?

Do you plan to stay home from the polls on Tuesday, November 7, 206? Do you feel your vote won’t make any difference? One vote, you say? Recent and past history is full of examples where one vote was the determining factor.

Oliver Cromwell was named Lord Protector of England by a vote of 91 to 90. Cromwell’s election resulted in a temporary removal of the British royal family from power and the death of Charles I by beheading.

Thomas Jefferson was elected third President of the United States by one Congressional vote. In 1868, there was an attempt to impeach President Andrew Johnson. The motion lost because it fell short of the required two-thirds majority by one vote.

In 1941, only 65 years ago, the House of Representatives passed a bill to extend the draft for the duration of the impending national emergency. The vote passed by 203 to 202. This was just three months before the surprise bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Throughout the municipalities, counties and states in the United States thousands of laws and critical pieces of legislation will be voted upon. By the same token, hundreds of judges and legislators will be voted upon and selected for office. In many of these choices and elections, one vote will be found a factor in the victory or loss in laws, judges and legislators designed to protect the rights and privileges of the common good and tranquility of the United States and its citizens. It is, therefore, the responsibility of every person to know the issue or issues and vote their conscientious.

It is written in Sacred Scripture that the very hairs on our heads are numbered and know by God Himself. That is an indication that every person is worthy and special to the Creator. My vote counts because I count—certainly in God’s economy and in the affairs of my community, state and country as well. God Bless America! Land That I love!
